OLD CLUNKERS RULE!!!!

diamondbaby27 started this conversation

hi everyone...if you have a old clunker please think twice about  getting rid of it keep it.......better to have something PAID off.... then 5 yrs in debt

To me the biggest scam in the whole deal is that it is roping people in who can't afford the payments on the loan. At least not for long. How many people you know driving 25 year old clunker can afford new car payments? Or any car payments? Then there is the more expensive insurance. More expensive everything. This is the same kind of 'getting in over your head' thing that put this country in financial trouble in the first place.....

Amen.

These are my exact sentiments. This deal is to help the car makers & dealerships. I willing to bet there are going to be alot of repossession in the future. People are going to feel really bad when they can no longer make the payments, the car get repo'ed & know they gave their 'paid for' car up.

Everything that glitter is not gold!

I thoroughly agree!!!

While I do love my new car, I miss my 93 plymouth voyager! it was PAID IN FULL!!!! minimal insurance... BUT it was terrible in the winter and now it needs a new fuel pump, oxygen sensor, etc... so it is going to sit for my son when he is ready for it...

I did NOt want to go into debt especially now  and especially over a vehicle, however being the only one driving in the house, and getting everyone back and forth to work and school, it was a necessity... Could I have done better? Probably... ok yes, if I had more time... but time was not on my side and my insurance now is only $25 more / month than it was with basic coverage and I have a reliable vehicle... believe me I have agonized over this for a week trying to justify it... my heart has finally stopped racing and the anxiety has subsided... but if I had more time and money, yes, I would have stayed with my klunker!!!!

I have an old clunker  only new car I ever had. But if you want to replace the the upholstery look around before even 10 years pass the regular upholstery isn't avaiable. I have had to spend about 1 grand a month for 3 months one summer and then more money for old car whose parts are rotting so if you can afford to upgrade I am for it.

I looked at a used like mine but by time I ran numbers for it like insurance etc and payments it is a sports car etc. I couldn't do it and I was at the  time going over to stable area and my old clunker could take the rocks dirt and dust.

Personally, I don't care for the new ones of this well known and love their cars etc as it is like they are made of tin. My old car has more body to it.
